Civil War Era Woman's Dress
Designed and Sewn by Katie Mann Katie Mann
Designs
Months ago we
were contacted by Susan W and Katie Mann to purchase a large quantity of
reproduction fabric from the Marcus Cambridge line. Susan hired Katie to sew a
1800s/Civil War era dress and agreed to share a picture once the
garment was done. I couldn't wait for it to arrive, and here it is! (Susan
is modeling.)
Susan is a Civil War Reenactor and wears this amazing garment when taking part in reenactment
events that are staged across the United States.
To learn
more, check out the Civil War Reenactment HeadQuarters website.
It has a great deal of information including a list of planned
events.
Thank you Susan and Katie! I love learning what
people are passionate about, and of course what they are sewing!

MaryAnn's story...
Mary
Ann entered one of our contests and won a prize. While talking with her I learned that she was a seamstress and sewed wedding dresses and other
garments as part of her business.
To my complete amusement she
described a costume she was making out of black Lycra for a comic
book convention. Her customer, a librarian, want to dress as Batgirl.
I begged for a picture. Since I was not able to reach 'Batgirl'
for permission, her face has been deleted. Unfortunately it hides the mask
and its details, a real pity.
MaryAnn did a terrific job, and
'Batgirl' gets a standing ovation from me for wearing the costume. She's a better bat, er, woman, than me!
Thanks
MaryAnn for sharing.~Bea

Jane's Story: 'I keep a pretty good swatch system on what I have
what project box it is currently residing in. But basically I just
enjoy my fabrics. I bought them because I thought they were
beautiful and by golly I was right. They are still beautiful.
I don't remember if I showed you the pictures of the log cabin
pillows I made for my sister in law, Kaye. I'm happy and she's very
happy with the results. I foundation pieced them so they'd be good
and strong. Fun picking out the fabrics and also quite challenging
to whittle them down to just the seventeen you see here. But anyway
here they are.' Jane in Massachusetts
